Author Guidelines

CAML Review welcomes submissions of articles, reports, news, essays, and reviews on topics relevant to the purposes of the Canadian Association of Music Libraries, Archives and Documentation Centres (CAML), particularly those pertaining to music in Canada, music librarianship and archival management, and bibliography.

CAML Review, an open-access publication, is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License. Authors retain copyright of their work (for more information, see the journal’s copyright notice below).

Research articles 

Since November 2016, a section of the journal has been dedicated to peer-reviewed research articles.

Research articles are accepted based on a peer-review process. Manuscripts are first read by the Editors for general suitability. They are then sent to one or more reviewers for further review and comment using a double-blind review process. Once a decision has been reached, the Editor informs the author whether the paper has been accepted for publication and if there are conditions for acceptance. In collaboration with the author, all accepted manuscripts are edited to ensure clarity of presentation and consistency of style. In general, articles in this section are 4,000 to 6,000 words in length. The author is required to supply an abstract for the article of no more than 250 words. See also “Submission guidelines” below.

Reports, News, Essays

CAML Review welcomes reports, news, and essays on a variety of topics, including association business; relevant conferences and workshops; and activities and initiatives related to music libraries, archives and documentation centres.

Reviews

CAML Review includes reviews of recordings, books, and reference publications with priority given to Canadian content. Reviews should in most cases be about 1000 words in length, not including footnotes. Guidelines for Reviewers

Submission guidelines

Articles, reports, news, essays: Submit contributions via e-mail attachment to the Editor for consideration at any time. A brief author’s biographical note should appear as the first (unnumbered) note.

All sections: 

  • Submissions may be written in either English or French, the two official languages of the Association. The text should be single-spaced, in a font size no smaller than 12 point, with an indent at the beginning of each paragraph. Illustrations, figures, and tables should be placed within the text at the appropriate points and all pages should be numbered. 
  • In general, CAML Review follows the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition, employing the “Notes and Bibliography” format for citations. The journal uses Canadian spelling based on the latest edition of the Canadian Oxford Dictionary. 
  • Accuracy of citations—including names, titles, dates, page numbers, and quotations—is the responsibility of the author. All information should be verified before a contribution is submitted. Authors are also responsible for obtaining permission to reprint illustrations, examples, song texts, or other material. All necessary credits and acknowledgments should be included in the submission.
